Harmonized Core Competency Framework
Developed in 2014, the Harmonized Core Competency Framework is the result of the Joint Task Force for Clinical Trial Competency's work to align clinical researchers worldwide around a single, comprehensive set of competencies for the profession. The Joint Task Force worked to incorporate the priorities and necessities of organizations across the clinical research community in order to make the Framework as inclusive as possible. The Framework was developed in a multi-stage process that involved:
1. Identifying competency statements in publications, presentations, and training resources and competency domains, broad categories for the competencies.
2. Aligning and harmonizing similar competency statements in the appropriate competency domain to be inclusive of the needs and priorities of the clinical research community.
3. Reviewing and revising the proposed Framework with collaborating organizations.
In 2017, the Framework was updated based on suggestions from implementers and stakeholders.
The Harmonized Core Competency Framework is made up of:
8 Competency Domains, broad categories of knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for conducting clinical research
51 Competency Statements, specific skills and abilities related to clinical research
